Writing Paragraph Analysis Review - Sample Body Paragraph
The theme of the poem The River-Merchant’s Wife: A Letter by Li Po is that there are difficulties and hardships in long – lasting relationships. (Introduction Sentence) This is represented in stanzas 1 – 3 when the author uses images to detail the beginning of the difficulties in their relationship from childhood to marriage at fourteen and children following soon after when the wife must climb a “look out” to wait for her husband to come home. (Evidence 1) The author, a merchant, begins his frequent departures from his wife in stanza 4 continuing to the end of the poem. The wife in the poem demonstrates her patience, frustration and loyalty to her husband in the final stanza when she uses the simile saying, “I will come out to meet you/As far as Cho-fa-sa,” a large beach far away from where she lives. (Evidence 2) In conclusion the author uses similes and imagery to highlight the theme of hardships in long – lasting relationships. (Concluding Sentence)
